概要:Low-temperature plasmas have been widely used so far in the dry process of semiconductor manufacturing. Recently, by changing the object from semiconductor materials to living cells, low-temperature atmospheric pressure plasmas (LTAPPs) are being utilized for various medicine effects such as sterilization, anti-cancer treatment, skin renewal, wound healing, and anti-inflammatory activities in atopic dermatitis. This presentation introduces the interdisciplinary plasma-medicine researches at Pusan National University and Yonsei University, S. Korea, especially for skin treatment and the stem-cell proliferation. The skin treatment by LTAPP is reported to enhance cutaneous delivery of epidermal growth factor by regulating E-cadherin-mediated cell junctions, which opens the way of transdermal drug delivery. Besides, the skin renewal effect by plasma treatment is reported by the activation of beta-catenin in keratinocytes. Together with negative pressure (54% of atm pressure) in plasma cupping, the enhanced vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) was reported in the skin cells through nitric oxide (NO)-mediated activation of hypoxia-inducible factor 1. Finally, the activation of proliferation in various mesoderm-derived human adult stem cells is reported by the low-dose atmospheric pressure plasma without affecting the stem cell characteristics. It is expected that NO is mainly responsible for the proliferation as well as keeping stemness.
