We are engaged in research aimed at new applications of energy over a wide range of spatiotemporal scales. Especially, we involve in research into new photonics and quantum technologies that exploit the unique physical properties manifested in nanoscale semiconductors.

Nano-optical science and quantum technology in two-dimensional semiconductors

Recently, the numerous researches about quantum science and technology are being actively conducted to realize new quantum systems and innovative devices based on new materials, which is needed as the next-generation social infrastructure. We focus on the research of new semiconductors with extremely thin layers of atoms as two-dimensional semiconductors, and their artificial heterostructures consisting of layers of these semiconductors. Especially, we consider moiré excitons arising from electron-hole pairs confined in a moiré lattice, as a quantum two-level system, and then aim to establish new quantum systems using them for future quantum technology.
