Kyoto University invites applications for the position of Associate Professor in the fields of electrochemistry in the Integrated Research Center for Carbon Negative Science, the Institute of Advanced Energy

1. Job Title and Number of Positions:
Program-Specific Associate Professor, 1 position

2. Place of work:
Institute of Advanced Energy, Kyoto University (Address: Gokasho, Uji City).
If the university permits or mandates telecommuting, you can work from home, etc.

3. Term:
The employment contract is until March 31, 2026. Renewal is possible annually for up to March 31, 2028
based on the evaluation results.

4. Job Descriptions:
Research on electrochemistry contributing to energy and environmental issues, including the separation
and purification of rare earths using molten salt electrolysis.

5. Starting Date:
October 1, 2025 or the earliest possible date thereafter (adjustable according to individual requirements).

6. Eligibility:
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the relevant fields.

7. Working Conditions:
Working hours: Seven hours and 45 minutes per day, 38 hours 45 minutes per week under a discretionary work system.
If the discretionary work system for specialized work is not applied, work 5 days a week from 8:30 a.m.to 5:15 p.m. (break 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)
Overtime may be required.
Holidays: Weekends, National holidays, Year-end and New Year holidays, the University Foundation Day (June 18).

8. Salary and benefits:
To be determined in accordance with the Kyoto University regulations.
No allowance (such as for commuting, housing, bonuses, etc.) will be provided.

9. Social Insurance:
Eligible for MEXT* mutual aid association membership, employees' pensions, employment insurance, and workers' compensation insurance.

10. Probation period:
Six months

11. Selection Method:
Application review and interview if necessary.
No travel expenses for interviewees would be provided. Online interview may be arranged for foreign applicants when needed.

The following application forms (1) to (6) must be either in English or Japanese on separate A 4 sheets of paper. Applicant's name should be put in the top right corner of a header section on each sheet. Personal information is protected by Kyoto University’s privacy policy.
(1) Curriculum Vitae (including the date when the candidate is available to start work.). When writing CV in Japanese, candidates can use JIS Standard Japanese Resume Paper.
(2)-List of publications: Classify them into the following categories; original papers, books, reviews, international conference proceedings, patents and others.
- List of research grants: Name, amount, sponsor, and period of each grant and applicant’s role of each research.
- List of social activities: Memberships and roles in academic societies and social out-reach activities, if any.
(3) Summary of research achievements categorized by theme (approx. 2000 characters in Japanese, or 1000 words in English, figures can be included)
(4) Research plans (approx. 2000 characters in Japanese, or 1000 words in English, figures can be included)
(5) Letter of recommendation or contact information for two references (name(s) and affiliation(s) should be included)
(6) Up to five major papers’ offprints should be attached.
The style of documents is free-format excluding Curriculum Vitae.
